Ask Gemini about places you saved in Google Maps, explained by monkey

Gemini has a setting called Personal Intelligence. When you turn it on, Gemini can use your other Google apps (Gmail, Photos, Calendar, Maps and more) to answer you. On October 22, 2026, Google expanded the Maps part: Gemini can now see the places you saved in Google Maps and the places you searched for, not just general Maps info.

How to turn it on

• Open Gemini (the app, or gemini.google.com) signed in with your personal Google account.
• Go to Settings, then Personal Intelligence. On the web the page is gemini.google.com/personalization-settings.
• Turn it on and pick the apps Gemini may use. Make sure Google Maps is switched on.
• That's it. It stays on for your chats, and you can switch it off any time from the Tools menu or the same settings page.

What to ask it

• "Where was that pie place I saved last summer? Is it open now?"
• "I have a list of restaurants I've been meaning to try. Which one is closest to me right now?"
• "What was the coffee shop I searched for in Lisbon?"
• "Plan me a day out using the places I saved in Tokyo."

What it won't do

• It only knows places you saved or searched in Google Maps. Next time you find a great spot, tap Save in Maps.
• Personal Google accounts only. It doesn't work on school or work accounts.
• Not available in the EU (EEA), Switzerland or the UK yet.
• The saved-places part is still rolling out. If Gemini can't see your saved places yet, update the app and try again in a few days.
• It's off until you turn it on. Google says you choose which apps to connect and can disconnect them at any time.
